Baffleworks is funded by affiliate commission. Here is exactly how that works, what we earn on, what we do not, and why it does not affect a ranking.

The short version

Baffleworks is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

If you click a buy link on this site and purchase something, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. That is how the site is paid for.

How the links work

  • Every product link on this site points at /go/<merchant> on our own domain, which then redirects to the retailer with our tracking tag attached. That keeps every destination in one config file, so a link can be repointed without rewriting an article.
  • Every outbound commercial link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and opens in a new tab, per Google’s link-spam policy.
  • Our Amazon Associates tracking ID is baffleworks-20.
  • The /go/ path is noindex, disallowed in robots.txt, and excluded from the sitemap. It is plumbing, not a page.

Who we earn from

One retailer, at the moment:

  • Amazon — Amazon Associates, category rate.

Baffleworks is a new publisher and has joined no other affiliate network. That is the normal state of a site at launch rather than a gap we are hiding. Where we link to a manufacturer directly — Erva Tool & Die, Brome Bird Care, Droll Yankees, Squirrel Stopper, Tenax, Bobbex, Plantskydd, Orbit Irrigation — those are plain citation links and we earn nothing from them.

How prices are shown

  • Prices come from a live data layer refreshed on a daily schedule, and every price on the site is date-stamped.
  • When we do not have a current figure, the button reads “Check price on Amazon”. We never display a remembered, estimated or stale number. There is no live price data on the site at the moment, so every button reads Check price.
  • Prices and availability at the retailer change constantly and the retailer’s own page is always authoritative. Anything shown here is what we last observed, not an offer.

Why commission does not decide a ranking

  • The rate does not vary. Amazon pays a category rate. Every baffle on a roundup pays the same rate, so there is no higher-paying option to steer you towards.
  • Buyer first, always. Where something is better bought elsewhere, or not worth buying at all, we say so and earn nothing.
  • Every roundup names something to skip. Sometimes that is a product we also list, in the situation where it is the wrong choice.
  • The free answer is usually the first answer. The most effective advice on this site — move the feeder ten feet from anything solid — earns us nothing, and it opens most of our pages.

What we do not accept

  • Sponsored placements or paid rankings.
  • Free products, review samples or loaned equipment.
  • Payment for a specific verdict, position or link.

Nothing on this site has been sent to us and nothing has been paid for. That is also why we do not claim to have tested anything — see how we pick.
